5000 euros donated to nature conservation projects

22 january 2025

The Herpetofauna Foundation is proud to start the year well with wonderful donations. In total, we are transferring 5000 euros to nature conservation projects related to endangered lizards, turtles and toads.

1500 euros for Darevskia lizard
1500 euros will be made available for research into the status of various species of the genus Darevskia. Very little is known about many of these species, such as Darevskia kopetdaghica, the Kopet Dagh rock lizard from Iran, which we have been helping for some time.

2000 euros for Eichwald's toad
2000 euros will go to the endangered Bufo eichwaldi, Eichwald's toad. We have previously supported this species within a project and now explicit research is being done into the presence of parasites and their impact on conservation strategies. This is very important data for other amphibian species as well.

500 euros for gharial AND turtles
This year we can award no less than 2 grants of 500 euros each, both to projects in Nepal: the protection of the gharial, led by Bishal Prasad Neupane, and a project by Tapil Prakash Rai, who will use these funds to protect no less than 7 species of turtles.

500 euros for Eremias acutirostris
Finally, we are donating 500 euros to inventory research into the Eremias acutirostris, the point-snouted racerunner, about which very little is known scientifically.

In 2025, the Herpetofauna Foundation will again be issuing various grants, so keep a close eye on the website and our social media pages.
