King Cobra
Ophiophagus hannah
For many years, the king cobra is getting increasingly more endangered by the loss of habitat and many is still unknown about this special snake species.
Those who visit the African savannas are likely familiar with the 'Big 5', a group of majestic wild animals that have come to define the safari experience.
Drawing inspiration from these iconic animals, the Herpetofauna Foundation has compiled its own list of species that we aim to promote and support. These animals form our 'Big 6' and represent a diverse range of animals, each facing its own conservation challenges. At the same time, they emphasise the beauty and importance of reptiles and amphibians. As key elements of our ongoing projects, they receive special focus in our educational programs, at events and symposia.
