Ko Pha Ngan Naja Project

The Ko Pha Ngan Naja Project focuses on the conflicts between snakes and humans on the Thai island of Ko Pha Ngan and specifically in Than Sadet National Park on the island. Monocled cobras (Naja kaouthia) are monitored using radio telemetry. The importance of research is shown by the fact that according to the Thai Department of National Parks there are only 4 species of snakes on the island, while project leader Dawn Cook has observed 19 species. Other reptiles are also being mapped, such as the black marsh turtle (Siebenrockiella crassicollis), which has an endangered status.

The project also focuses on providing information to the local population.
