Why Our Turtle Project
Turtles are one of the oldest animal groups on our planet, but unfortunately, they are also among the most endangered. All turtles are listed on the IUCN Red List, ranging from vulnerable to critically endangered. To assist these and other turtles, the Turtle Project was initiated by the Herpetofauna Foundation and Healthy Seas. This project helps schools educate students about issues such as plastic pollution, ghost nets, and general waste, as well as the threats facing turtles, all while keeping the experience fun and engaging.
About the Turtle Project
The Turtle Project is an enjoyable and educational program centered on turtles, aimed at fostering awareness and conservation. It comes at no cost to you and provides an excellent teaching package. The project allows students to explore themes such as nature conservation, sustainability, recycling, deforestation, and climate change in a playful and informative manner.
The Contents
The Turtle Project includes a comprehensive teaching package suitable for all primary school grades, featuring teaching materials, games, a PowerPoint presentation, and everything you need to organize an information fair, including posters, banners, and fishing nets. In this teaching package, teachers will find detailed information about the loggerhead sea turtle and its natural habitat, along with textbooks for students. To assist with organizing a theme week or a theme day, the pack contains fun games that teachers can do with students, such as freeing fish from a net, a live board game, memory games, Loco, and coloring pages. When you participate in the Turtle Project, employees of the Herpetofauna Foundation will visit your school to give a presentation with live turtles. All materials will remain at your school for future use.
What We Ask of You
All we ask is that you organize one or more fundraising activities at the school, with proceeds going to the Herpetofauna Foundation’s charities. You can consider activities such as charity runs, bottle collections, or auctions of crafts. Ideally, these activities can be combined with the information fair, where volunteers from the Herpetofauna Foundation and divers from Healthy Seas will be present with their materials and equipment. Students will also have the opportunity to interact with various reptiles and take photos with them.
