Venom in the Hobby

11-12-2022

Throughout the day, a variety of speakers shared captivating presentations based on their unique expertise. Jeroen Kooijman delivered an engaging talk on scorpions, while Matthijs Tempelman shed light on tarantulas. Dr. Matyas Bittenbinder explored the scientific applications of venom, even demonstrating how a snake is milked for its venom with assistance from Peter Schilperoord.

Chris Lagewaard shared his insights on snakes within the Boiga genus, and Marieke Dijkman, representing the Dutch Poison Control Center, discussed venom-related incidents in the Netherlands. Adding to the program, our chairman, Rogier van Rossem, gave an insightful talk on developing safety protocols and how venom is considered in policymaking.

The day concluded with a powerful screening of the documentary "Minutes to Die."

The event was a complete sellout, with all proceeds donated to the “Snakebite Survival Fund” of Stichting Herpetofauna.
