This year, Stichting Herpetofauna and Poppodium Phoenix are raising funds for two important causes:
• Kakare Women Group (Oeganda): This non-profit organization is entirely run by women – an important fact given the position of women in Uganda. Kakare Women Group trains women in snakebite awareness, prevention, first aid, and the safe capture and relocation of snakes. Their programs specifically focus on women whose daily activities regularly bring them into contact with snakes. Thanks to their efforts, countless bites are prevented and snakes are saved every year. This year, Herpetofauna is supporting them with a new project that aims to reach up to 10,000 people, helping to save countless lives – both human and animal.
• SHE-India: India is home to more than 300 snake species, 67 of which are venomous. Yet it is primarily the “Big Four” – the spectacled cobra, the common krait, Russell’s viper, and the saw-scaled viper – that are responsible for most fatal and debilitating bites. SHE-India is committed to tackling this issue through more than 600 awareness and capacity-building trainings, educational materials in 14 regional languages, and a snakebite support app that has already been downloaded more than 10,000 times.
