Shahriar Caesar Rahman is an award-winning conservationist based in Bangladesh. As the co-founder and CEO of the Creative Conservation Alliance (CCA)—a Bangladeshi organization dedicated to safeguarding the country’s last remaining wild spaces—Caesar has spearheaded groundbreaking conservation initiatives over the past 14 years.
His work focuses on protecting globally threatened species and restoring critical ecosystems. Caesar launched Bangladesh’s first-ever rewilding program for the endangered Asian giant tortoise (Manouria emys) and achieved significant milestones in the population recovery of five turtle and tortoise species. His efforts include establishing the country’s first tortoise conservation breeding facility, a critical step toward ensuring the survival of these imperiled reptiles.
Caesar serves as the Regional Vice Chair for South Asia of the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group. His research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals, and his conservation work has been featured in prominent media outlets.
Caesar’s dedication to wildlife preservation has earned him multiple prestigious awards, including the Future for Nature Award (2017), the Whitley Award (2018), and the New Explorers Award (2020).
